Rose Garden Waterfall

_config.yml        This water feature is located at the Portland Rose Gardens in Portland, OR. What stands out to me about this shot is not the photo itself but all of the photos I chose not to take that day. In this post I will talk about when and why of my photos and ultimately what makes it here.

Since I have started the blog almost all of my photos have been taken using my Canon m50 with it’s 50mm lens from KEH.com. I chose this particular camera when shopping because of it’s small size, feature rich body, and ease of use. I also bought the Peak Design Capture Camera Clip to hold my small friend. This setup allows me to carry a camera almost everywhere without really noticing it. So when we went to the Portland Rose Garden my m50 came with me, along with five other folks in my partner’s family.

We generally were just there to take in the Oregon flora, but also to spend time with each other. The garden is perched atop a hill on the western side of the city looking out towards Mt. Hood. The garden was ripe with vibrant flowers, neatly kept paths, and some of the most picture perfect settings I’ve seen. It was the perfect place to appreciate a raw nature mixed with the tedious work of the gardeners. This little water feature was situated in a small sitting area behind an overlook of the city and Mt. Hood.

What fascinated me about this feature was the way the water came down in drops rather than a stream. I wanted to capture a floating water affect here; unfortunately, my field of focus is a little screwy, and with a low f number, the little bamboo pipe is about the only thing in focus here. I still admire the photo for what it is trying to be and I am sure with enough time and practice I would be able to nail more shots like this in the future. For now, this is the best I’ve got. Thanks for reading, I look forward to chatting with you all in the future.
